Tell us a little bit about yourself, how long have you been foiling and where are you from?
I've been foiling for about four years, I picked it up towards the end of COVID. I'd retreated up to Hasting Point in the Northern Rivers and has Wategoes on my doorstep, and it was pumping for months on end.
I've surfed my whole life, but since I started foiling, I've surfed three times, my boards are now antiques.
What sparked your interest in Foiling?
I had a mate, Trevor King who'd kicked off foiling, and I tried his board. It was terrifying. And the fact that I couldn't ride something in the ocean, the challenge became the hook.
What was the learning curve like and if you could give one PRO tip what would it be ?
The learning curve was rough, I remember every time I drove around Wategoes Hill I'd get butterflies in my stomach. It just felt stupid to be surfing on knives. But my pro tip would be, go all in. Don't surf as it's the exact opposite muscle mechanics and it will just slow you down. Spend two months going hard, then after that, I promise you'll be hooked!
What is your go to KT setup and why ?
My go to KT setup is the Nomad 700 + Nomad 155 tail. That combo is fire. The 700 pumps like a bigger wing and rolls like a smaller one. I love frisky wings that you have to keep up with and this setup does not disappoint.
Tell us about which type of foiling you’re most into, what’s a standard session out foiling for you?
I was always a prone foiler, I loved ripping turns, but since I've broken the back of the downwinding learning curve, which is almost as brutal as learning to foil in the first place, the mastery of your adrenaline and the clarity you need is something else. Some of my runs shooting past Byron headland, 3ks out in the ocean with head high bumps has been some of the wildest things I've ever done on the ocean.
What is your next foiling adventure ?
I've started the parawing journey, and like all good things, it's brutal. But I can see the end game, riding a 40L board and a 700 wing DWing and just carving the whole way down. Surf DWing is next level, it's an endless playground out there.
If you could summarize KT in one sentence what would it say ?
KT is master craftsmanship made by the best watermen in the world.
